Delft University of Technology
The Executive Board has decided to appoint Dr Max Mulder as a full professor of Aerospace Human Machine Systems (AHMS) at Delft University of Technology. This is a new chair within the Control and Simulation (CS) section. His appointment will provide a stimulus for the further reinforcement and growth of the CS section as an internationally recognised research laboratory. Max Mulder has worked for the CS chair since December 1999, initially as an assistant professor and later as an associate professor. We would like to congratulate him with this appointment.

I think that most of the PhD students at the department have already met me, but nevertheless I will write few lines about my academic background. I will only stick to the facts that concern my research interests because I think that it is not possible to describe the person's true personality in just few lines of text. As time go by you will know me better. I am going to talk about what I tried to do so far. I am 24 years old (maybe the youngest one here) and I come from department of Automatic Control, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Belgrade, Serbia (ex Yugoslavia). My research interests have shifted from one topic to another during my studies as I gradually became aware of the true "nature" of the control science. I ended up doing my MSc. on Direct Lyapunov's Method. I first tried to make the nonlinear mathematical model of the real robotic system with three degrees of freedom and coupled that model with four different types of controllers. I did not linearise the model, instead, I proposed the Lypunov's function for every case in order to try to analyze the stability properties, like: stability of the zero state, asymptotic stability of the zero state, regions of stability and nonstability, boundary circles, the orbital stability of boundary circles and etc... I have also simulated the responses of the system in problems of positioning and tracking of the system. Next step would be to introduce the elasticity of the segments into the model and also to try to introduce Kalman filter. My thesis was very theoretic and somehow I have shaped my mind in that direction but I will try to catch up with more practical things because I realized, while attending the last MSc colloquium at TU Delft, that MSc thesis at TU Delft are more practical than was mine in Belgrade. But you know the proverb: " There is nothing more practical than the good theory!". Doing my MSc thesis I realized that it is practically impossible to make the algorithm that will in turn generate the Lypunov function for every imaginable type of nonlinear system. Maybe this is not true? Here in Delft, I have joined the group of Professor Michel Verhaegen and I hope that I will contribute to the research of his group.

Hi all, I finished my MSc thesis at DCSC mid January, hence many of you probably already noticed me, or at least my face, somewhere over the last few years. I began a follow-up study of my thesis in a 6 month research job the 1st of February. The main focus of the thesis was on subspace model identification techniques for a `smart' wind turbine rotor blade, although I have also performed some work on Subspace Predictive Control (SPC) for the duration of the thesis. The research job will focus entirely on batchwise/recursive SPC for a `smart' wind turbine rotor blade. Let me end this small introduction with mentioning that I like, of course, music (hard and soft), movies (a lot), even reading (little less), as far as hobbies are concerned.

Hello, I have started up this year my studies at University of Groningen, those are graduated courses mainly from the research school DISC, in order to be able to start next year as Ph.D. student. The research area will be the application of nonlinear control for nonlinear electrical circuits, e.g., photo-voltaic inverters. The robust passivity based control for power converters should be the methodology to developed a switched electrical circuit implementable and applicable.

Hi, everyone, my name is Ruiyue Ouyang and I am a new PhD student in Industrial Technology and Management Department of the university of Groningen. I got both my BSc and MSc in Electrical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology. The main focus of my MSc thesis was on modeling and control of a system with magnetic hysteresis. The topic of my research project is "Contactless micromanipulation by magnetic levitation".
Marko Seslija was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 1984. He obtained the Diploma from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Sarajevo, in 2008, presenting the thesis "Numerical treatment and extrapolation of approximately optimal solutions for some two-dimensional distributed parameter systems" (advisor professor B. Perunicic-Drazenovic.) Since February 2009 he has been a Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Groningen, working under the supervision of professor J.M.A. Scherpen and professor A.J. van der Schaft on the project "Structure preserving model reduction of port-Hamiltonian systems." His research interests include nonlinear system analysis, optimization theory, and time-frequency and microlocal analysis with its applications in signal processing and signal and system analysis.
