ANNOUNCEMENT: IFAC Conference on Nonlinear Model Predictive Control (NMPC),
23-27 August 2012, Noordwijkerhout, The Netherlands
The conference series on Nonlinear Model Predictive Control (NMPC) focuses on the theory and applications of model predictive control and has already a long and rich history. NMPC'12 is the fourth conference in this series after NMPC'98 in Ascona (Switzerland), NMPC'05 in Freudenstadt-Lauterbad (Germany), and NMPC'08 in Pavia (Italy).
We are happy to continue this tradition and announce that the next edition of the NMPC Conference will take place under the auspices of IFAC, in Noordwijkerhout, The Netherlands, from 23 to 27 August 2012. The aim is to bring together researchers in the area of MPC, from both academia and industry, in order to establish the current state-of-the-art and focus the future development of the MPC field towards relevant directions. The following plenary speakers agreed to share their views on MPC with us:
- Graham Goodwin (AUS)
- Lars Grune (GER)
- Sasa Rakovic (UK/USA)
- James Rawlings (USA)
Moreover, the following semi-plenary speakers have also agreed to present their views on MPC: Alberto Bemporad (IT), Samir Bennani (NL), Francesco Borelli (USA), Mark Cannon (UK), Barry Cott (NL), Stefano Di Cairano (USA), Moritz Diehl (BEL), Christian Ebenauer (GER), Martin Guay (CA), Maurice Heemels (NL), Colin Jones (SWI), Eric Kerrigan (UK), Tamas Keviczky (NL), Ilya Kolmanovsky (USA), Daniel Limon (SP), Lalo Magni (IT), Manfred Morari (SWI), Sorin Olaru (FR), Anatoly Propoi (RUS).
The deadline for submissions is set to April 9, 2012.

Project: Autoprofit
Dear all,
My name is Max Potters and I was born in Wijk bij Duurstede (The Netherlands) on 28 December 1987. This month I will start my PhD studies at TU Delft under supervision of Prof.dr.ir. Paul van den Hof and Dr. Xavier Bombois. My research involves automation of large-scale industrial processes and is part of the AUTOPROFIT project, which goal is to improve control models based on a leastcostly principle and reduce operation downtime.
After obtaining my bachelor “Physics and Astronomy” I pursued my master degrees “Mathematical Sciences” and “Meteorology and Physical Oceanography”, at University of Utrecht. I performed my master research at Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, France, where I worked on the development of a statistical mechanics description of the Shallow Water equations.
In my spare time I like to read books, travel, and do sports (athletics, swimming). I’m delighted to join the DCSC community and I look forward to meeting you.

Project: Distributed Control of Large-scale Hybrid Systems
Dear all,
My name is Shuai Liu, born in China on 10th September, 1988. After obtaining my bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering and master’s degree in Dynamics and Control of Spacecraft’s in China, I am here for my PhD study.
With a great interest in the field of control, I came to DCSC as a full-time PhD student. My supervisor is professor Bart De Schutter. And my main research interests will focus on distributed control of large-scale hybrid systems. I will work on weekdays and you can find me in room 8C-4-07 during working time.
I’d like to travel, read books, watch movies and listen to music in my spire time. Besides, jogging is my favorite sport.
That’s my brief case. I hope that we can learn more about each other and enjoy our working together in the future.

Project: Multi-level and Multi-agent Control of Intelligent Infrastructures
Dear all,
My name is Le LI. I come from Weinan City, Shannxi Province, P.R.China. I got my bachelor degree in Automation and master degree in Control Theory and Control Engineering separately in June 2008 and in April 2011. Now I start my PhD project named “Multi-level and multi-agent control of intelligent infrastructures” under the supervision of Prof.dr.ir Bart De Schutter and my daily supervisor is Dr. Rudy Negenborn.
I do enjoy reading books and listening to music(especially the inspirational music) in my spare time.
I am a person who looks a little shy but be talkative actually. I am very happy to make friends in this new environment.

Project: Specimen Drift Compensation in Transmission Electron Microscopes
Dear all,
My name is Jan Erkelens and I have just started as a postdoc on the Condor project in which I will be cooperating with Arjan den Dekker and Arturo Tejada. I will be looking into the problem of specimen drift compensation in transmission electron microscopes.
I have a lot of experience in the field of statistical signal processing, mostly applied to speech signals. The past six years I worked as a postdoc at the EWI department of TU Delft on speech denoising.
In my free time I like to hang out in a climbing hall, do some running, or ride my motor bike (if weather permits).
